What food photography is all about
Good food photography is all about technique and feel. Food changes rapidly in front of the lens: a sauce absorbs, ice melts, fresh herbs wilt. That's why we work quickly and prepared, with the right lighting and a keen eye for detail. We determine in advance how a dish will be structured, what light fits and how we retain freshness when it counts. The result is an image that is right and at the same time seducing, without looking forced. This approach requires experience with a variety of products. From a steaming plate of soup to a sleekly lit bar of chocolate: each category has its own technical challenge, and we tailor the shoot accordingly. For brands like Knorr, we photographed everything from steaming broths to finished dishes.
In the studio or on location
For food photography, you have two options with us. In our studio at the SPEK Design Dock, we have the space, equipment and props to capture dishes in a fully controlled manner, with styling and preparation at your fingertips. Do you prefer to work on location, in your own restaurant or production environment? Then we will come to you with a mobile set. This way you capture the atmosphere of the place itself, something that is especially valuable for catering and artisan producers. For images that revolve around the person and the craftsmanship behind the food, our food photographer works closely with a stylist, so that photography and presentation fit together.

From menu to packaging
Each application calls for its own kind of food photography. For a menu or recipe page, the image must be recognizable and arouse appetite, while for a packaging the image must be technically correct down to the last detail. If the image goes directly on the packaging, we work it out within our packaging photography. For restaurants and cookbooks, we take on culinary photography with the same care for atmosphere and detail. Food photography also requires its own approach online. Images for social media must stand out among a hundred other posts, and we think along with them from the briefing.
This is how a food shoot works
A shoot starts with a good conversation about what you want to achieve and where the image will end up. Based on this, we draw up a plan: which dishes, which style, which light. On the day itself, we work efficiently, so that every dish is in front of the lens at its best. Afterwards, we take care of the post-processing, in which we optimize color and contrast until the food really splashes off the screen. You will receive the images ready for use, in the right format for print or online. Everything happens under one roof at our photo studio in Rotterdam, with the down-to-earth approach we are known for: working hard in a relaxed atmosphere.
